Canadians cherish the right to speak freely, express their beliefs, and debate ideas without fear of government punishment. But Bill C-9 threatens those fundamental freedoms. This legislation could lower the threshold for what is considered “hate speech,” opening the door to criminal penalties based not on actions or intent, but on how someone claims to feel. Canadians must stand up now to defend the freedoms that define our democracy.

Bill C-9 would significantly expand the government’s power to police speech and belief. By redefining “hatred” in vague and subjective terms, the bill risks criminalizing lawful expression based on emotional reactions rather than clear harm.

Even more troubling, the legislation removes long-standing protections for sincerely held religious beliefs. Pastors, priests, and ordinary Canadians could face legal consequences simply for expressing views rooted in their faith.

In a free society, citizens must be able to debate, disagree, and express convictions without fear of government prosecution. Bill C-9 moves Canada in the opposite direction by giving authorities broad and dangerous powers that could silence legitimate speech and belief.

We, the undersigned Canadians, call on Members of Parliament to vote NO on Bill C-9 and defend the fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Protect the right of Canadians to speak openly, practice their faith, and express their beliefs without fear of government punishment. Reject Bill C-9 and stand up for free speech, religious liberty, and the democratic values that define our country.
